Violence mars APC primaries in Plateau By Joel Choji

What should have been a brotherly affair turned sour as the primaries for the local government election in the ruling All Progressives Party were disrupted in several local government areas of the state. A statement by the state Administrative Secretary of the party, Mr Joel Choji Pam issued to newsmen said the "primaries were largely peaceful but were however marred by violence in some centers due to disagreement in the conduct" Mr Pam noted his party was studying the situation even as it was awaiting the report of the committees set up to conduct the primaries in the 17 LGAs with a view to addressing member's grievances arising from the numerous complaints. The party has made appeals to all party members to exercise patience to enable it resolve the reasons behind the voilence that characterized the primaries. It would be recalled that the Plateau Independent Electoral Commission had ordered registered political parties to conduct primary elections to produce candidates for the October,2021 local government chairmen and councilors

Meanwhile campaigns are ongoing as in almost all the local government areas no clear candidate has emerged.
